Celosia argentea is one of the leading leafy green vegetables in Nigeria, where it is known as ‘Soko yokoto‘, meaning “make husbands fat and happy“.It is also popularly known as popularly as Lagos spinach, celosia, plumed cockscomb, or silver cock comb.

It is an herbaceous plant of tropical origin and is known for its very bright colors.

Red, orange, yellow, violet, white, and pink are the most common colors on the blossoms. The foliage has a medium green color.
